Parents Who Host Lose The Most
The “Parents Who Host, Lose The Most: Don’t be a party to teenage drinking” public awareness campaign was developed by Drug-Free Action Alliance in 2000. The program is designed to educate parents about the health and safety risks of serving alcohol at teen parties and to increase awareness of and compliance with the State Underage Drinking Laws. In 2001, the campaign received a national award as a promising prevention program.
Since 2007 the Oconee Area Resource Council has promoted the “Parents Who Host Lose the Most” awareness campaign in Oconee County. Articles are placed in the Oconee Enterprise as well as in the Athens Banner Herald focusing on the campaign. An ad also is included in the Enterprise’s annual county distribution to 16,000 residents. Papa John’s local pizza restaurant participates by placing stickers on 500 takeout pizza boxes. An additional 500 handouts are distributed at PTO meetings and the Town Hall meeting. Billboards are placed in three Oconee County locations.
