Prime For Life
PRIME For Life is a research-based program developed by Prevention Research Institute (PRI), a non-profit educational organization headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky. The content of PRIME For Life is based on multi-disciplinary research and contains over 900 bibliographical references. It is the mandated statewide program in Georgia, Iowa, North Dakota, South Carolina, and Utah and delivered through community agencies in more than 45 states. For more than 15 years, PRIME For Life has been tested and developed. Its content is carefully selected to achieve specific attitudinal and behavior change. Information is presented objectively and persuasively using documented research findings rather than opinion, exaggerations or scare tactics.
With the support of Oconee Area Resource Council, PRIME for Life has been utilized in the Oconee County School system for the past 7 years. Over 100 students and parents have attended this program. Completion of the program reduces student suspension from 10 days to 5 days of out of school suspension. A parent is required to attend the classes with their child. Parents have remarked that the program has challenged them to evaluate their own behaviors and beliefs.
PRIME For Life is taught in 10 hours spread out over at least 4 classes. The course includes a student self-assessment, individual and group activities.
