Food for Kids
In 1995 a school nurse in Little Rock, Arkansas, asked the local food bank for help after realizing that students complaining about stomach pains and dizziness were suffering from hunger. What resulted was a weekend food program that has since been modeled across the country.
Oconee Area Resource Council and the Oconee County School System have teamed up for this special program aimed at closing the hunger gap for needy schoolchildren in Oconee County. Every Friday Oconee Food for Kids distributes sacks of kid-friendly food to children who might not otherwise have enough to eat over the weekend.
It costs approximately $240 to provide a student with a bag of food for 40 weeks. Donations and kid friendly food are being accepted to help feed a child during the weekend.
Help us show these kids that their community cares, because no child should be worried about their next meal.
