About Us

A Family Connection Partnership

Oconee Area Resource Council

OARC was established in 1989 to coordinate the efforts of community leaders, government officials, citizens, businesses and the school system to set goals for Oconee County. In 1993 the Board of Commissioners along with the State Family Connection Partnership recognized OARC and supported the coalition’s efforts to maintain and nurture a collaborative community partnership that focuses on families, empowers individuals, is driven by need and accountability. Drug awareness and prevention has always been an overarching  goal.  In 2005, OARC was awarded the Drug-Free Communities Support Federal Grant which enriches the coalition and supports local awareness and prevention efforts of alcohol, tobacco and other  drugs.   With the help the Drug-Free Communities federal grant, Georgia Family Connection Partnership and local businesses and organizations, OARC is able to coordinate and support community programs such as:  Responsible Beverage Service Training for businesses, Say Boo! To Drugs, Town Hall Meetings, After Prom, Prevention Awareness Campaigns, Secret Santa and Sr Grocery Bags.

Mission

Our mission is to promote collaboration, support community programs and prevent substance abuse among youth to sustain a healthy environment in Oconee County.
