Programs
Oconee Area Resouce Council implements and assists numerous programs. To highlight a few, Red Ribbon Week is utilized as
a means of creating awareness of drug and alcohol concerns as well as promoting prevention programs. Say Boo! to Drugs is a
part of Red Ribbon Week and creates an empahsis on abstaining from drugs for elementary students. In 2008, we had 30 businesses
and approximately 500 students and parents participate.
Training for Intervention ProcedureS (TIPS) workshops provide owners,
managers and servers of alcohol-licensed establishments with training on the legal issues of serving alcohol as well as the role to
maintain knowledgeable and responsible staff. Particpants gain information which can strengthen company policies and methods
and materials for employees. To date, we have organized 8 workshops and trained 40 participants.
Senior Grocery Bagsis a partnership among Oconee Area Resouce Council, Action Inc and Hands on NEGA to make sure senior citizens in need in
Oconee County are receiving enough groceries and non-perishables. Participants who qualify through Action Inc, receive
a bag of items each month. This program helps stretch their grocery dollars. This program is currenty
serving 36 seniors in Oconee County, with a waiting list. If you are interested in helping with this program, please contact

Class Action is a school-based alcohol-use prevention curriculum series that significantly reduces increased alcohol
use and binge drinking by high school students. This program divides students into 6 legal teams to prepare and present
hypothetical civil cases in which someone has been harmed as a result of underage drinking.
