Programs
Oconee Area Resouce Council implements and assists numerous programs. To highlight a few, Red Ribbon Week is utilized as
a means of creating awareness of drug and alcohol concerns as well as promoting prevention programs. Say Boo! to Drugs is a
part of Red Ribbon Week and creates an empahsis on abstaining from drugs for elementary students. In 2008, we had 30 businesses
and approximately 500 students and parents participate.
Training for Intervention ProcedureS (TIPS) workshops provide owners,
managers and servers of alcohol-licensed establishments with training on the legal issues of serving alcohol as well as the role to
maintain knowledgeable and responsible staff. Particpants gain information which can strengthen company policies and methods
and materials for employees. To date, we have organized 8 workshops and trained 40 participants.
Awareness CampaignOconee Area Resource Council provides many ATOD prevention awareness campaigns throughout the year. Topics vary from Marijuana,
Prescription Drug Abuse and Parental Provision ofAlcohol. Awareness campaigns are held in the fall and spring of every year.
Class
Action is a school-based alcohol-use prevention curriculum series that significantly reduces increased alcohol use and
binge drinking by high school students. This program divides students into 6 legal teams to prepare and present hypothetical
civil cases in which someone has been harmed as a result of underage drinking.
