CISM – Critical Incident Stress Management

Oconee CISM is a member of the Northeast Georgia Critical Incident Stress Management Team. The CISM team is a group of individuals from all areas of the community who utilize comprehensive methods of assisting a person or group before, during and/or after a crisis. It is available at no cost to provide supportive non-evaluative assistance to a person/group reacting normally to an abnormal event such as

• On the job death or serious injury of a fellow worker.
• Multi- casualty incidents
• Suicide of a fellow worker
• Incidents that attract excessive media interest
• Any incident charged with a profound emotion
• Significant events involving children as victims
• Any incident where circumstances are unusual or distressing and produce a high level of immediate emotional reaction

CISM training includes basic, peer and advanced levels. Each member is required to obtain basic and peer levels. National membership in ICISF is not required but encouraged. Teams usually meet once a month.
